The quarterback position will belong to Fresno State transfer Carson Conklin. He started three games for the Bulldogs last season but spent his first two seasons at Sacramento State. He was an FCS Freshman All-American and finished third for the Jerry Rice Award (top freshman at the FCS level) in 2024. Jackson Sharman (Idaho State), Jaylen Patterson (New Mexico State), and Brian Salazar (JUCO) have also been added.
The running back room returns experience in Jamar Curtis and Curron Borders. Borders may miss a second straight season with an injury. Curtis was an FCS All-American at Lafayette in 2024. The additions of Davion Godley (Weber State), Cincere Rhaney (San Diego State), and two JUCO transfers provide solid depth.
The wide receiver room returns some experience in Ajon Bryant, Jaxon Fresques, Jace Wilson, Onterrio Smith Jr., and tight end Jordan Williams. The additions of Matt Coleman (San Jose State), Kenyon Shabazz (JUCO), Raiden Brown (Idaho State), Khai Taylor (JUCO), Elijah Washington (Oregon State), along with multiple true freshmen and tight ends provide more options for this unit.
The offensive line room returns experience in Luke Slater, Davis May, Bryson Summers, and Jeremiah Stallworth. The additions of Garrison Blank (UCLA), Vae Soifua (Weber State), Hayden Frazier (JUCO), Jamin Guilbert (JUCO), and Shontrai Key (Incarnate Word), among others, will all see action.
The defensive line room returns experience in Xavier Williams, Miles Bailey, Malik Tullis, and Malachi Kindle. The additions of Will Weber (UTEP), Nick Dimitris (Florida A&M), Jamel Howard Jr. (Wisconsin), Isiah Chala Jr. (Fresno State), and Austin Chambers (JUCO) will all play big roles.
The linebacker room will be the best on the team. Derek Houston, Fata Puloka, Alex Rocha, Diego Davis, and KJ Jefferson all have experience. The additions of Ivan Moore Jr. (Northern Illinois), Tim Thomas (Fresno State), and Darson Jeanty (Lafayette) bring even more experience to this unit.
The secondary returns some experience in Elias Mullican and Diesel Gordon. The additions of Amari Wallace (Miami), Donovan Turner (Illinois), Qualyn McQueen (D2 Nebraska Kearney), Boogsie Silvera (South Florida), Malikai Nichols (St Francis), Nikko Klemm (Arizona State), Dionte Thronton (Portland State), and Noah King (Colorado) will all see action.
The kicking duties will belong to Grant Meadors, who performed well last season. The punting role will see a battle well into fall camp, but should belong to Southeastern Louisiana transfer Jay Brockhaus.
Sacramento State welcomes in new head coach Alonzo Carter and is making the move to the FBS and the Mid-American Conference. This team was built to be an FCS Independent and could struggle in year one, especially in the trenches. Travel will be very interesting. They will find the right path and build for a solid future.
