The quarterback position belongs to Kevin Jennings. He dealt with some injuries last season that hampered his dual threat ability. He developed a ton as a passer, throwing for 3,641 yards and 26 touchdowns. Now that he is healthy, he could have a very special senior season.
The running back room will feature California transfer Kendrick Raphael. He is a big, strong runner who rushed for nearly 1,000 yards. He even scored the game winning touchdown for California against SMU last season. He will be joined by redshirt freshman Dramekco Green and true freshman Christian Rhodes.
The wide receiver room returns some experience in Yamir Knight, Derrick McFall, and Jalen Cooper. The additions of Jalen Hale (Alabama), Yannick Smith (East Carolina), and tight ends Randy Pittman Jr. (Florida State), Theo Melin Ohrstrom (Texas A&M), and Trey Jackson (Texas Tech) bring game changers to this unit.
The offensive line room returns experience in Joshua Bates, Graham Uter, Andrew Nichols, Abel Hoopii, Andrew Chamblee, and PJ Williams (All-ACC). Williams will be a high NFL Draft pick in the future. Young players will continue to develop as depth, including redshirt freshman Dramodd Odoms.
The defensive line room returns experience in Jahkai Lang, Jonathan Jefferson, Woo Spencer, Kevin Allen, and Aakil Washington. Jefferson and Washington missed all of last season with injuries. The additions of Ira Singleton (South Florida), Christian Davis (Louisiana Tech), Marques White (UMass), Malcolm Alcorn-Crowder (Kansas State), and Tavion Atkinson (JUCO) will all play major roles.
The linebacker room returns experience in Alexander Kilgore, Brandon Booker, and Brandon Miyazono. This is quite the trio. The additions of Caden Marshall (Bowling Green), Jamal Anderson (Clemson), and true freshmen Kenneth Goodwin and I’Zayah Young bring significant talent to this unit.
The secondary room returns experience in La’Modrick Spencer, William “Speedy” Nettles, Marcellus Barnes, Jaelyn Davis-Robinson, Tyren Polley Jr., and Jaden Milliner-Jones, among others. The additions of Jayvon Thomas (Texas A&M), Jimmy Wyrick (UTSA, All-AAC), and Jarvis Lee (South Florida) will all play major roles.
Punter Wade McSparron returns after a very solid season. Placekicking was an adventure last season and FCS All-American Nick Reed (New Hampshire) should stablize the role. Yamir Knight is a very solid punt returner.
With Kevin Jennings back, the sky is the limit for the Mustangs. Rhett Lashlee is a fantastic coach and did an amazing job in the transfer portal. His ability to evaluate talent and people is second to none. A return to the ACC Title game and College Football Playoff are within reach if they take care of business.
