The quarterback position is set with the return of Bishop Davenport. He started all 12 games last season and threw for 2,072 yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He was second in the Sun Belt in completion percentage (68%). Another year in the system will allow him to grow and develop even more.
The running back room returns experience in Keenan Phillips and PJ Martin. Both will see increased roles as Kentrel Bullock has moved on. Both Phillips and Martin have good speed and burst. The additions of Trae’Von Dunbar (West Virginia) and multiple redshirt and true freshmen give this room plenty of depth.
The wide receiver room returns experience in Anthony Eager, Micah Woods, and Brendan Jenkins. Development of young players will be key to build depth. Eager and Woods have track speed and can break away from a defense on any given play. Tight end Everett Hunter (Nicholls) joins Rob Gibbs and could help with production at that position.
The offensive line room returns some experience in Jamal Siler, Kenton Jerido (All-SBC), Ethan Hubbard, and Reese Osei-Wusu. Watch out for redshirt freshman Devin White. The additions of Khayree Lee Jr. (LSU), Shalik Hubbard (Monmouth), Diego Camboia (Mississippi Valley State), and Devon Waller (JUCO) provide instant depth.
The defensive line room returns experience in Emmanel Waller, E’Mauri Smiley, and Stephen Johnson. Tyler Carter will be expected to make a jump. The additions of Masey Lewis (McNeese), Tre Brown (Texas Tech), Ricky Sutton (Furman), Andrew Hines (Eastern Kentucky), Christian Ross (Holy Cross), and true freshman Antwon Thomas, among others, will play major roles.
The linebacker room returns experience in Tirrell Johnson (All-SBC), Caleb Dozier, Parker Shattuck, and Tre’Mon Henry. Johnson is a force off the edge. The additions of Dylan Chiedo (Furman), Seidron Langston (ULM), and multiple true freshmen provide this unit with solid depth.
The secondary returns experience in Damyrion Darby, Jayvon Henderson, Dallas Young, and Cole Blaylock. The additions of Jaylen Moson (Utah), Tre Webb III (JUCO), Colby Williams (JUCO), and DJ Moore (Georgia Tech) will all see significant playing time.
Punter Aleksi Pukkinen returns after a solid 2025 season. Kicking duties will belong to either Davis Little, Peyton Argent (South Carolina), or Dylan Freeburg (Colorado State). Micah Woods is a valuable weapon as a return man.
Last season saw a dip for Major Applewhite and company to 4-8. The offense should be improved, but the defense has so many changes and questions that it could be learning on the fly. This will be an important and interesting Year Three for Major Applewhite in Mobile.
