Early this month we reported that former VMI offensive coordinator Billy Cosh was leaving to fill the same role at Richmond University. That left VMI with a huge hole to fill and they found their man in Wide Receivers coach Patrick Ashford.

Patrick was a backup quarterback at the University of Tennessee and starting holder. Before coming to VMI, he coached at the University of Tennessee at Martin before a two year stint at Austin Peay State as well as Vanderbilt.

Ashford played a crucial role in VMI’s 2020 season in which they played in the spring of 2021. VMI’s offense broke multiple school records which culminated in their first ever playoff berth and their first winning season since 1981. He also helped coach wide receiver Jakob Herres to All-American and top SoCon honors.
