What If The Transfer Portal Operated Exactly Like The NFL Draft?
Explore a world where the worst CFB teams get the first pick of the Transfer Portal. A complete 134-team mock draft for the 2025 cycle. Who did your team take?
It is no secret that the Transfer Portal has seen an extraordinary amount of movement over the last couple of weeks. Matter of fact, more than 10,000 Players ranging from the Division I ranks down to Division III ended up entering the Transfer Portal over the span of the past couple of weeks. It was such a massive amount of movement that at times? It actually overshadowed what should be the sport’s biggest stage… the national championship game.
Yet in the mist of the Transfer Portal chaos that unfolded over the past couple of weeks, I ran across this tweet from the Twitter User IcyVert which did get the old wheels turning in regards to an alternative way for the Transfer Portal to operate which is shown below:

Now while I certainly don’t believe that the Transfer Portal should be based on complete randomness, what this tweet above made me wonder as professional teams are also gearing up for their respective offseason, what if the Transfer Portal operated exactly like the NFL Draft did any given Spring?
What I mean is, what if the worst team in College Football within the FBS Level was able to get the first crack at any player that entered the Transfer Portal? Would UMass go with a elite Quarterback Prospect such as Brendan Sorsby, Drew Mestemaker, or Sam Leavitt? Or would they go for an elite Transfer Portal Option at another position such as the Offensive Tackle Jordan Seaton?
Now before I even get into what each FBS School would pick in this alternative Transfer Portal Draft, we first need to figure out what the draft order is going to be in the first place. While you can probably guess that UMass is going to have the first selection, figuring out the other 134 Slots outside of the Minuteman and your 2025 National Champions in Indiana would have taken awhile. Except, I happen to already put together my Personal Full FBS Rankings which you can check out over on Twitter here:
Finally, I do want to set the ground rule that I will only be doing 1 round because of the volume of teams that will be involved. Plus, I will also be going based off of how each team has approached the Transfer Portal over the past couple of weeks with the exception of the Military Academies which I just went Best Player Available. So with all that established, let’s dive into how I can hypothetically see an Transfer Portal Draft unfold for the 2025 Cycle:
